BMW's small CUV, the X1 is a relatively new model for the US market but it's already extremely popular. Dan Poler, editor for The Auto Channel, took one high-end X1 for a test drive and shared the conclusions for those that are currently looking to buy a Crossover Utility Vehicle.
The X1 is BMW's cheapest car, starting at $30,800 (€23,600) but don't be fooled. Getting too close and personal with the options list will get you up to as much as $48,395 (€37,000), as was the case with the xDrive35i that was tested around the Rocky Mountains by The Auto Channel.

This model is fitted with BMW's notorious 3-liter 6-cylinder turbocharged N55 engine with its 300 HP and 300 lb-ft (406 Nm) of torque that was hooked up to a 8-speed automatic transmission that sent the power to all four wheels.

The driving experience is just as good as in any BMW and it will remind you of the E90 3 Series. It is agile, fast (it has 300 HP at its disposal for a kerb weight of 1,500 kg/3,307 lb) and quick around the corners, especially with the xDrive system.
