After careful deliberation, BMW has decided to finally bring the X1 to the US market this year, even though it was concerned it would create market overlap with the X3. However, the smallest X model the Bavarians make is a best-seller in Europe, so they just couldn’t ignore the new sub-compact SUV market in the States.
Thus, the X1 will make its US market debut tomorrow at the New York Auto Show, but it won’t be the same vehicle we’ve come to know. Thanks to some fresh photos of the 2013 BMW X1, we can show you this has received a facelift, or as BMW puts it a Mid Cycle Impulse.
The facelift doesn’t really change much in the way of sheetmetal, as only the bumpers have bee touched. The headlights look unchanged, but interior and silver paint accents distinguish this from the old model. Round the back, we have new designs for the taillights and bumper.
New wheels have also been added to the mix, together with some paint option. But we’re more interested of what’s under the hood of the US model. Two engine options will be available, a 240-horsepower 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder in 28i models (sDrive and xDrive) and a 300 hp 3.0-liter turbo in the XDrive35i. Both will be available with an eight-speed automatic as standard and will have stop-start technology to better MPG figures.
