To call Chris Harris a lucky guy is to state the blatant obvious. The man drove so many rare cars that it would be a waste of time and space to list them all here. However, most of them were road legal, cars meant to be driven on the open road, not track cars that would scare 7-year olds on the street and leave you deaf.
That’s exactly what he’s driving in the latest episode of /DRIVE. Team Schnitzer, the one that propeller Bruno Spengler to the top of the driver’s championship in the DTM last year, invited the man to take a spin in the 2013 BMW M3 DTM race car, the one that helped the Munich-based company claim the Manufacturers’ title this year.
Needless to say that the car is so complicated and decked with so much technology that you simply feel overwhelmed when you even get closer to it, not to mention the feeling you get once you sit in the specially crafted carbon fibre seat in it. Since we’re talking carbon fibre, we should also mention almost all of the car is made of carbon fibre, to make it as light as possible, but not under 1,100 kg (Driver included) according to the DTM regulations.
The engine under the bonnet is the same 4-liter S65 V8 unit we’ve seen on regular M3s but taken up to 480 HP, hooked up to an incredibly fast and accurate gearbox and held in place by unbelievable brakes.
