2013 BMW G650GS, the Middleweight Touring Thumper

The 2013 BMW G650GS is by all means one of the most popular middleweight touring bikes with real dual-sport attitude. With serious rivals such as Honda Transalp, the Suzuki V-Strom and others, BMW had to come up with serious features.. and since engineering was never the German manufacturer's weak point, here's the new small GS with a 3.2 l/100 km (73.5 mpg) fuel economy @ 90 km/h (56 mph). Now, how's that for saving?

The 652cc injected thumper boasts a twin spark DOHC architecture and can produce up to 48 hp, with a max torque around 60 Nm (~44 lb-ft). The BMW G650GS comes with a very convenient low seat which creates a good profile for smaller riders. While the tall ones might find it a bit too compact, the bike's design allows excellent feet contact on the ground.

Thanks to its forgiving and rider-friendly character, the 2013 BMW G650GS is a great beginner bike, especially as it can be tuned down to 34 hp to comply the legal regulations. 19” and 17” wheels are great for both on and off the road driving, and fitting them with knobby tires transforms the BMW G650GS into a great off-road machine.

With a wet weight of 192 kg (424 lbs), the small GS is easy to handle. A wide range of touring and off-road accessories is available to add both looks and functionality to this nifty ride. Prices start at $7,850 (€5,880), ABS included.
