Most people have been saying that the E82 1 Series Coupe was the bastard direct descendant of the E30 3 Series. Whilst some people disagree, failing to offer good reasons, we tend to agree.
The guys from autoblog took an E82 135is Coupe out for a quick spin to see if the remaining 1 Series on American soil is so good that the comparison with the legendary 3er from the 80s is appropriate.

As well as all the other bloggers and journalists said before, the 135is charms you from the first moment you touch the acceleration pedal. The engine delivers its power in a linear and aggressive manner and the gearbox is up to par with it.

Due to its almost perfect 50:50 weight distribution, the 1er is very agile and quick around even the tightest bends, making it a real driver's car. You can actually put this car on any paved road in the world and it will deliver pure joy for the one behind it's steering wheel.

The interior might be boring and done in the same BMW classic style but this car is all about functionality and that is exactly what you'll find in it. Everything is at hand and you won't have a problem using all the functions of the car.

The seating is comfortable at the front and even a 6 foot 5 inches tall person can find enough head room and a comfortable position in the driver's seat. The back seats might be a little cramped but who cares? This is a driver's car and it will make you remember why you love BMWs.

For this kind of money, the 135is has no competition. Sure, you could go with the Porsche Cayman but it will always lag behind. Going for the Audi TT-RS will cost you an arm and a leg for not much extra.

Overall, yes, this Bimmer is a worthy descendant of the iconic cars that came before it. It will give you back the sheer driving experience you long for, without making you sell your house in order to afford it.
