The story of the first 6-Series production model to come with four doors instead of two starts with a concept some called a sacrilege, the 2010 Gran Coupe Concept. But even before that, BMW played with the idea of setting new standards in the four-door coupe market, since in 2007 they showed the CS concept, offering the same configuration.
Surely, the fact that the 6-Series was changed so much from its previous versions will be compensated by the fact that the GC offers an answer to the Audi A7 and the Mercedes Benz CLS.
So let’s see what the Gran Coupe has to offer! First off, it offer seating for 4+1, in a body that’s basically the same shape as its 2010 concept version The car is 5,007 meters long (197 inches) and has a wheelbase of 2,968 mm (116.8 inches), which is only 111 mm (4.4 inches) longer than a regular Coupe.
The 2013 BMW 6-Series Gran Coupe is offered with a choice of three flavors, the base 640i powered by a N55 that will be available early next summer and the 650i Gran Coupe with the usual 4.4-liter V8 that also comes in xDrive AWD form. On the diesel front, the only option is the 640d, powered by a 313 hp 3.0-liter engine that doesn't look to be coming to the US. The powetrains are mated to BMW’s eight-speed Sport Automatic transmission with steering wheel mounted paddles on the standard Sport leather steering wheel. Pricing and availability will be clarified at a later date.
