It seems like the entry-level BMW 320i is getting more and more popular theses days and we can definitely see why. After all, we’re still recovering after the worst crisis since the Great Depression, right?
That means money’s tight and we’re all careful about spending it these days. That’s why the 320i makes a lot of sense to a lot of people these days and, after being reviewed by the guys from Edmunds a while back, the guys from AutoGuide took a shot at it too.
Unlike the Edmunds variant, the AutoGuide one was not tested to be the cheapest possible 320i. Oh no, this one came decked with optional features worth somewhere around USD10,000 and that’s a lot for a car that is supposed to be on a budget.
At USD44,195 this 320i is dangerously close on the starting price of an xDrive 335i and that’s not ok. However, all those features do make your life easier, even though you don’t need all of them.
The interior feels premium, the iDrive system works flawlessly and the powertrain is absolutely miraculous, making you forget you only have 184 HP and 280 Nm (200 lb-ft) of torque at your disposal.
The car is fast in all situations and handles everything you throw at it as it’s supposed to, all while keeping the fuel consumption close to the EPA estimates (average consumption reached 27.4 mpg in their test).
The downsides of it include the lack of a proper sporty feeling, as it was the case with its predecessors, the trunk space and the high price tag but the comfort, refinement, luxury and starting price make it a car hard to ignore when you’re looking at A4 and C-Class competitors.
