Audi is actually pinning a lot of its hopes on the new A3, a car which for the very first time has to go up against a suitable Mercedes rival, the third generation of A-Class, as well as the first ever front-wheel drive BMW, the 1-Series GT which will be presented as a concept in Paris next month.
So the new A3 is learning from its past mistakes and is going to do without the strange wagon body. As such, the regular 5-door will be called the A3 Sportback. This car is rumored to make its official debut at the Paris Motor Show 2012, ahead of a market launch early next year.
Based on the numerous sightings of the new A3 Sportback, a rendering has been created by Virtuel-Car, combining elements from the recently unveiled third-gen A3 3-door.
The engine range is made up exclusively of turbocharged petrol and diesel engines, including the new 1.4L with cylinder deactivation. All-wheel drive will be optional, and so will the double-clutch gearbox.
