2013 Acura RLX Concept Unveiled: Photos and Video

Acura showed us a preview of their next luxury sedan for the US market. This is the RLX, still being shown as a concept at the New York Auto Show, but heading for production and the US market next year.

The RLX is going to be a flagship of the sedan range, with 2 inches (about 5 cm) of extra legroom in the back than its predecessor.

Just about the only note-worty aspect of the RLX’s design is that 20-inch wheel shape with turbine shape.

The concept uses Acura’s new Sport Hybrid SH-AWD, combining a 3.5-liter VTEC V6 engine to a 7-speed dual clutch transmission and three electric motors, one in the front and two in the back. The Japanese automaker says this system will offer 370 hp in combination with fuel economy figures of 30 mpg combined.

That sounds overly complicated, and the styling is never going to impress Audi quattro fans. But there will also be a more American 310 V6 version with FWD.

"We have created a true luxury sedan based on our Acura DNA," commented Tetsuo Iwamura, American Honda CEO.
"This means achieving advanced performance through engineering efficiency to create a unique synergy between the vehicle and its driver. Inside and out, on the open road or city streets, the sophisticated and elegant Acura RLX will offer a level of connectivity, comfort and advanced performance demanded by today's luxury buyers.”
