2012 Volkswagen NMS New Teaser Released

In anticipation of the public revealing that will take place at the 2011 North American International Auto Show (NAIAS) in Detroit next week, Volkswagen has published a new photo of what is supposed to be the New Midsize Sedan (NMS) to replace the popular Passat. The car will most likely go on sale across the United States later this year but, of course, more details will be provided on Monday during the first press day at the NAIAS. The NMS is one of the models that will play a key role in Volkswagen's strategy in the United States and the German manufacturer expects to sell around 60,000 units of the new range per year. Although it will replace the Passat, expect to see the model priced below the outgoing sedan, in an effort to attract more buyers. In the United States, Volkswagen's Passat is priced at $27,665 for the sedan and at $29,095 for the wagon version, which means the upcoming NMS model could be retailed for under $25,000 if Volkswagen sticks to the plan to keep the upcoming model an affordable solution. The vehicle will be produced at the new Chattanooga production facility that has already prepared the production lines for the new sedan. The factory signed in 2010 several agreements with various suppliers and made the first appointments to be sure everything will be ready later this year when the NMS will enter production. autoevolution will be attending the 2011 North American International Auto Show, so stay tuned for some real up close and personal shots of the vehicles, as well as for first-hand details of the motorized contraptions.
