2012 Volkswagen Jetta GLI to Debut in Chicago

The fourth motorization option for the new Jetta debuted today in the United States, as Volkswagen introduced the 2012 Jetta GLI model, a version that will make its public debut at the upcoming auto show in Chicago.

Pricing for the newly introduced Jetta GLI had also been announced. Available in three trim levels, namely GLI, GLI Autobahn and GLI Autobahn Navigation, prices start at $23,495, $25,545 and $26,445 respectively.

The GLI Autobahn adds 18-inch alloy wheels, sunroof, dual zone climate control, heated V-Tex Leatherette seats and the Fender Premium Audio System, while the top of the range GLI Autobahn with Navigation adds the RNS-315 navigation system and
keyless access with push-button start technology.

Interior highlights include sport bucket seats with red stitching, a sport flat-bottom steering wheel with red stitching, GLI logo and aluminum accents, as well as alloy pedals, shifter, dash and door trim.

Performance wise, the new Jetta GLI comes fitted with a 2.0L turbocharged four-cylinder gasoline engine, generating 200 horsepower and a full 207 lb.-ft. (280 Nm) of torque at 1,700 rpm. The engine is mated to a standard six speed manual transmission. The car is expected to deliver 31 mpg (7.59 l/100km) highway with the manual and 32 mpg (7.35 l/100km) highway with the DSG automatic.

Additional performance features for the Jetta GLI include:
  • Track tuned four-way Independent Performance Suspension for superb handling
  • DSG automatic gearbox that offers steering wheel mounted paddles shifters, super quick shift times and rev-matched downshifts
  • XDS cross differential system that debuted on the Volkswagen GTI, that helps prevent inside wheel spin during cornering
  • Four wheel disc brakes with floating red calipers
