2012 Volkswagen Beetle Configurator Launched

Did the recently revealed Volkswagen Beetle spark you interest? Are you wondering if it looks good in Brown with retro wheels? You’ll probably have to wait until later in the year to get your hands on one, but until then, the carmaker has launched the online configurator for those willing to dream.

Unfortunately, it’s only for the German market and the options are limited to the exterior colors and alloy wheel designs, but even this provides plenty of information about the new car.

Though the body is less nostalgic and retro in design, due to the flatter roof and the more vertical back, there are plenty of retro-looking wheels to choose from, including the 17-inch ‘Circle’ design and 18-inch ‘Disc’.

The color list includes Tornado Red, Candy White, Platinum Grey and a very stylish newcomer - Toffeebrown Metallic.

There are no interior option to look at right now, but we can tell you that VW has cut most of the cuteness of the previous generation out, including the “bud vase” mounted to the dashboard. Highlights include an available flat bottom steering wheel, an extra glovebox integrated in the front fascia whose lid folds upward while keeping the standard glovebox that opens downward, optional auxiliary instruments above the center console and integrated audio and navigation systems with a 5-inch or a 6.5-inch screen. Volkswagen can even equip a new panoramic sunroof that is 80 percent larger than before.

Like its predecessor, the 2012 Beetle features a front mounted engine, front-wheel drive layout. Depending on the region, the two-door Bug will be offered with a choice of diesel and gasoline engines.

For now, enjoy the online configurator, and tell us if you found how to make it red with white dots.
