While Japanese automaker Toyota plans to change focus to hybrids for the European market in the near future, conventional-powered models are still in the spotlights for now. One model that promises to be a hit in sales for the brand is the all-new European-spec Toyota Yaris. The highly anticipated model goes on sale in the UK, with deliveries scheduled to begin in September.
Thus the company hurried to announce its price along with some key features of the hatch. Priced from GBP 11,170, the car is offered in 3- or 5-door body styles. The new Yaris comes with a roomier interior, enhanced versatility, and more efficient powertrains.
Standard features of the 2012 Toyota Yaris include 15-inch alloy wheels, air conditioning, Vehicle Stability Control, and the affordable multimedia connectivity through the new Touch and Go audio system which incorporates touchscreen controls, Bluetooth/USB connectivity and a rear parking camera.
Customers can also choose from four trim levels (T2, TR, SR and T Spirit), while available engines include a 1.0 and 1.33-litre petrols and a 1.4-litre D-4D turbodiesel.
The 3-cylinder 1.0-litre VVT-i petrol is coupled with a 5-speed manual transmission and delivers 68 bhp at 6,000 rpm and 93 Nm at 3,600 rpm. This version returns 58,9 mpg and emits 111 g/km of CO2.
The diesel version 1.4-litre D-4D which comes with a particulate filter as standard produces 89 bhp at 3,800 rpm and 205 Nm of torque between 1,800 rpm and 2,800 rpm. Consumption and emissions levels for this model are even lower at 72.4 mpg (UK) and 104 g/km.
