Toyota started production of their brand new Camry in Russia in November last year, and the Big T has definitely made an impact with its sedan there. It’s put together at Toyota Motor Manufacturing Russia (TMMR) plant in St. Petersburg that’s been assembling Camrys since 2007.
Demand has been so high that the Japanese company’s leadership has decided to add another shift starting this September, which will result in 600 new workers.
Demand for the 2012 Camry has increased 66 percent in the first quarter of the year compared to a year ago.
"Starting two-shift operations is a significant event for our plant," said Toyota Motor Manufacturing Russia (TMMR) President Yoshinori Matsunaga.
"Our employees’ commitment to Toyota principles in quality has resulted in us gaining Russian consumer trust and high evaluations for our Camry. It makes us at TMMR glad to be able to contribute to the economy of St. Petersburg and to its employment," Matsunaga added.
