Land Rover has stuck the steering wheel to the left, slapped a new price tag on and is going to ship the 2012 Range Rover Evoque to the US of A starting this fall. Land Rover revealed today that the all-new 2012 Range Rover Evoque will have a starting price of $43,995 for the five-door, and $44,995 for the coupe, both including destination and delivery charges.
The press brochure announcing the launch makes a big case about lightweight materials and fuel efficiency: “As the lightest and most fuel efficient Range Rover ever, the Range Rover Evoque sends a powerful message that the company is serious about sustainability and is determined to deliver vehicles that are both relevant and highly desirable. The Range Rover Evoque addresses the growing consumer need for more environmentally friendly vehicles.”
We first met the Land Rover Range Rover Evoque at this year's Paris Motor Show, and its five-door sister makes its official debut today at the LA Auto Show last year. The Evoque is a big departure from what we've come to expect from the off-road specialists, and it's poised to be a real hit amongst the urban, luxury lifestyle set. Power comes from a range of four-cylinder gasoline and diesel engines, and all-wheel drive is standard.
Thanks to the use of weight-saving materials, ranging from Boron steel in the chassis and composite fenders, a magnesium cross beam and aluminum roof, to hood and plastics used inside, the Evoque only weighs in at 3,680 pounds (1,680 kg) and more importantly, it manages 19 mpg US in the city and 28 mpg on the highway, while also being exciting to drive.
