2012 Porsche 911 Carrera and Carrera S US Pricing Announced

Today, August 23rd, marks the beginning of a new chapter in The Book of the 911, as the seventh generation sportscar was officially revealed by the German carmaker. In coming year, we’re bound to see countless new variants, offering race suspension, turbocharging, four wheel drive or bright decals, but for now we will focus on the Carrera and Carrera S. Porsche has officially revealed today that the base Carrera will set its US customers back a total of $82,100 when deliveries start in February 2012. This is enough to make German customers very envious, as the European version costs almost €90,000. The base model will now come with a 3.4-liter flat-six engine capable of delivering 350 horsepower. This is enough to a 0 to 60 mph time of 4.4 seconds with the optional PDK dual-clutch gearbox. Moving further up the range, the new Carrera S offers the same 3.8-liter engine, this time packing 400 horsepower, 15 more than the previous generation. Porsche is asking $96,400 for the Carrera S, which is amazing value considering the Euro-spec model is over €100,000. “All versions get by with significantly less than 10 liters of fuel per 100 kilometers (official U.S. EPA fuel mileage estimates are TBD) and fuel consumption and emissions are up to 16 percent lower in the New European Driving Cycle (NEDC) when compared with the predecessor. This is achieved through systems such as the Automatic Start Stop function, engine and transmission thermal management, electrical system recuperation, the world's first seven-speed manual transmission and – in conjunction with the Porsche Doppelkupplungsgetriebe (PDK) – the ability to 'sail' or coast,” Porsche says. autoevolution will be attending the 2011 Frankfurt Auto Show, so stay tuned for some real up close and personal shots of the vehicles, as well as for first-hand details of the motorized contraptions presented at the event.
