Nissan has today shown the Hi-Cross Concept at the 2012 Geneva Motor Show, previewing not only a future crossover with seating for seven people, but a return to good looks and style for the Japanese carmaker.
To be frank, this might end up becoming a brand new vehicle that centers around design and features not off-roading, not a replacement for a current model.
The Hi-Cross Concept is actually a hybrid, powered by a petrol-electric mix between a 2.0-litre direct injection engine and a battery powered electric motor. This supposedly delivers the same output as a bigger engine and is mated to a specially designed CVT gearbox.
“Although this is purely a concept car, exploring potential ideas for the future, there is no ambiguity about its purpose. It is a high-riding crossover, hence its name: Hi-Cross Concept. But the name does more than refer to its shape. The ‘Hi’ refers equally to the idea of extended value, to the levels of innovation found in the drivetrain and, of course, to the excitement promised from the behind the wheel,” says Francois Bancon, Deputy Division General Manager of Product Strategy and Product Planning Division.
