2012 Mercedes SLS AMG Roadster Pricing Announced

The three-pointed star brand has officially unveiled its new SLS AMG Roadster, first releasing an image gallery of the car, and then indulging us with a video showing the vehicle in action. However, the question that rested on everybody’s lips was how much it will cost.

Luckily, we didn’t have to wait too much, as Mercedes-Benz decided to lift the suspense and disclose the price. Getting straight to the point, the SLS AMG Roadster can be ordered from June 1, 2011, with the market launch set for autumn, at the price of EUR195,160.

The open-top super sports car that lost its gullwing doors will be produced at the largest Mercedes-Benz production plant in Sindelfingen. The AMG 6.3-liter V8 engine comes directly from the AMG engine workshop in Affalterbach, where it is hand-assembled according to the traditional "One man, one engine" philosophy.

The unit develops 571 horsepower and 650 Nm (479 lb.ft) of torque, mated to a even-speed dual clutch transmission in a transaxle arrangement. A sports suspension with aluminum double wishbones are also among the vehicle’s key features.

Finally, Mercedes-Benz says that the fabric soft-top of the 2012 SLS AMG Roadster opens and closes in just 11 seconds and can be operated on the move at speeds of up to 31 mph (50 km/h).

The German auto brand has high hopes for the new two-seater. “Systematic lightweight construction, outstanding performance and a breathtaking design combined with sensuous open-air driving pleasure – the new SLS AMG Roadster perfectly embodies the AMG philosophy of German engineering and craftsmanship. The gull-wing model has already thrilled sports car fans all over the world, and now the open-top version is bound to cause a sensation," stated Ola Källenius, Chairman of Mercedes-AMG GmbH.
