The German automaker was forced to officially lift the veil off their new M-Klasse ahead of the scheduled event by a leaked brochure, but using only initial details and photos of the model, followed shortly by a video. Now Mercedes released the humongous press kit containing full specs of their SUV, accompanied by an extended photo gallery.

So far, we already knew what are the three powertrains available when the model goes on sale next spring: ML 250 CDI (2.1l, 204 hp and 500 Nm of torque), ML 350 CDI (3l, 258 hp and 620 Nm of torque) and the ML 350 BlueEfficiency (3.5l, 306 hp and 370 Nm of torque), all coupled with 7G-Tronic Plus transmissions.

What we didn’t know were the fuel consumption, emissions and performance figures are for each power unit. Mercedes has now revealed them: the ML 250 CDI returns 47.0 mpg, 158g of CO2/km, has a 0 to 62 mph sprint in 9.0 seconds, while the top speed is 130 mph; the ML 350 CDI returns 41.5 mpg, accelerates to 62 mph in 7.4 seconds and reaches a top speed of 139 mph; and the ML 350 BlueEfficiency returns 33.2 mph and has a top speed of 146 mph.

And get this: according to Mercedes, the new M-Klasse (with a drag coefficient of 0.32 in ML 250 BlueTEC form) is the most aerodynamically efficient SUV in its class. In terms of safety, with the huge amount of passive and active systems fitted on it, the M-Klasse is bound to receive the maximum rating from any car safety performance assessment programme out there.

The ON&OFFROAD package for the new M-Klasse uses a range of six transmission modes, controlled via a rotary actuator on the centre console: one automatic mode, two specifically off-road modes and three on-road modes (Winter, Sport and Trailer).

The available wheels range from 17-inch ones through to 20-inch, but 21-inch AMG wheels are also available as an option.

As expected, the new German SUV doesn’t disappoint us on the inside either. Four colours are available for the interior appointments: black, almond beige, alpaca grey and tobacco brown/marron. These can be combined with a large range of materials: fabric/ARTICO man-made leather, ARTICO man-made leather and leather in six colour combinations. In conjunction with the Interior Sports package, the combination of DINAMICA microfibre and black ARTICO man-made leather, or nappa leather and black leather is also available. But no worries, the comfort and entertainment features were not left aside.

Pricing for the new Mercedes M-Klasse are to be announced closer to the market launch.
