2012 Maserati GranTurismo Sport Revealed, Replacing S via Geneva

Big news for Maserati fans, as the Italians have finally come up with something new and improved. The GranTurismo S has been revised... replaced actually, with the GranTurismo Sport. But why? Well, the two-door Italian stallion has always been everyone’s favorite when it comes to looks, but always the bottom of the list when it came to performance.

Now, they’ve made it worse in some aspects and better in others. Let’s start with the bad parts first: the new grille is described by Maserati as being better for breathing and the braking system. It’s not actually redesigned, as most of it belongs to the MC Stradale. As for the headlights, they’ve been redesigned to include some LED daytime running lights fitted as standard, while the rear ones have a pleasant dark tint to them.

The big news comes via the engine bay, where the 4.7-liter has been upgraded from 440 hp the S had to a full 460 hp like. This is supposed to take the 1.8-ton heavy coupe to 62 mph (100 km/h) in under 5 seconds. The standard gearbox is a six-speed torque converter automatic, while a six-speed sequential manual is optional.
