Auto shows have their special aura that makes the four-wheeled creations which debut as part of them shine brighter than ever. However, this asset turns into a drawback is we zoom in on each new car, as the multitude of new releases makes names difficult to remember. Thus, there are certain cars that you’re just dying to meet again, outside the rush of the motor show.
This is exactly the feeling we’ve had when we met the revamped Lotus Exige S at last year’s Frankfurt Auto Show. The British athlete made our fingers shiver on the camera but the sea of other cars around it was desperately trying to steal our attention.

It was the same this year in Geneva, when a lot of vehicles were jealous on the new Exige S’ sculpted lines that make it look fast even when it’s ignition key is meters away from the car. So while the Swiss chocolate there was great, we didn’t quite get to fully enjoy the 350 hp toy.

A few days ago, we received an email that invited us to attend the Exige S’ first non- auto show debut. So, we’re not the only ones who see the (auto) world this way....

Earlier today, we met the V6 coupe face to fascia during its official launch in Romania. There it was, waiting silently under a black cover that just couldn’t hide its attractive styling cues, waiting to be the ONLY car on the scene. It might be 145 (310 lbs) heavier than the pre-refresh Exige, but it sure doesn’t look so. To get an idea of just how different these two cars are, we’ve also shot the old one, which was waiting outside the building.

This is the first unit that has been brought to Romania and there has already been somebody who was more than happy to pay a little under EUR60,000 to have his own 3.8-second Lotus. Who knows? maybe the man will even take it to its top speed of 270 km/h (170 mph).

So, while we’re here writing about how the Romanian launch event of the Exige S was attended by Lord Green of Hurstpierpoint, the UK’s Minister of State for Trade and Investment and Martin Harris, the British ambassador in Romania, the owner might be out there enjoying the chassis of the beast.

Does anybody have a time machine? We'd really love to hit fast-forward and see the future Exige R-GT rally car and US track car. Meanwhile, we'll just have to make due with a smile from one of their PRs...
