Japanese luxury carmaker Infiniti, Nissan’s less popular sub-brand, has today detailed the awesome-looking Emerg-E concept, which they actually want us to write in all-caps. So what is so important about this coupe that they want to shout about it.
Well, it’s their first mid-engine sportscar, but it’s also electric and sounds very exciting on paper. However, there’s one big problem with this car, and it’s the fact that it’s just a preview of a car they could build two model generations from now.
But even if it a car that looks far into the future, we still have a lot to look forward to. At just 4,464m in length, it’s not a whole lot bigger than any hatchback on the road. Yet it packs 402 horsepower from two electric motors in the back.
The 0 to 60mph (98 km/h) sprint takes only 4 seconds, and it can run on battery power alone for 30 miles (48 km), after which a three-cylinder generator kicks in and provides extra range. Despite being as powerful as a BMW M3, the Infiniti Emerg-E produces a CO2 output of only 55g/km (NEDC cycle).
