2012 Hyundai Accent Revealed

With all eyes focused on the 2011 North American International Auto Show in Detroit, Hyundai decided to take the wraps off its new Accent somewhere else and let the crowd that gathered in the Motor City feast their eyes with the Veloster. Hyundai has thus used the Montreal Auto Show to present the 2012 Accent, although various sources from within the company hinted in 2010 that the car is most likely to be revealed at the New York Auto Show this year.

Anyway, the Accent follows the "Fluidic Sculpture" design principles and measures 4,370mm (172 inches) in length, 1,700mm (66.9 inches) in width and has a wheelbase of 2,570mm (101.1 inches). It is powered by a 1.6-liter Gamma 4-cylinder engine that develops a maximum power of 138 hp at 6300 rpm and 123 lb-ft of torque at 4700 rpm. This means it can achieve a fuel consumption figure of 6.4 l/100km (36.7 mpg) city and 4.7 l/100km (50 mpg) highway, regardless if the car is equipped with a manual or an automatic transmission.

It is fitted with numerous safety features, including six airbags (two front impact airbags, two front seat-mounted side impact airbags, and curtain side-impact airbags for front and rear passengers), active front head restraints and seatbelt pretensioners, Electronic Stability Control (ESC) and Traction Control, Vehicle Stability Management (VSM) and motor-drive power steering (MDPS).

Standard features include a 6-way adjustable driver's seat, tilt steering wheel, power door locks, power heated mirrors and remote keyless entry. Options include a 6-speaker audio system, Bluetooth, cruise control, heated front seats and a power sunroof.
