Honda is introducing the 2012 model year Insight to the US market, with the vehicle receiving relatively modest modifications, for both the aesthetic and technical sides.
The vehicle is powered by the same IMA system that includes a 1.3-liter petrol unit and a 10kW electric motor (the two produce a combined 98 hp and 123 lb-ft of torque) with the CVT that controls the flow of power now coming with reduced friction.
The exterior changes include a revised front grille, revamped front and rear fascias, redesigned light clusters, as well as undebrody changes and new wheels designs.
The CVT modifications, together with the aerodynamic ones (these bring 2 percent less drag) have resulted in an efficiency increase of 1 mpg (EPA rated) from the outgoing model’s 40 mpg city, 43 mpg highway and 41 mpg city.
The list of interior changes includes a remodeled rear bench, a new instrument cluster backgound and new seat fabrics. In addition to that, Honda claims that it has improved the rear visibility, introducing rear hatch changes.
The 2012 MY Honda Insight comes with a starting price of $19,120 (the price includes a $770 destination and handling fee), which can be translated into a $150 premium over the model it replaces. We have to mention that the vehicle is already available for order.
