Production of the European-spec 2012 Honda CR-V has started at the Japanese carmaker’s plant in Swindon, United Kingdom. This is part of a £267 million investment programme into new models and engines at the factory, an investment which will soon also support production of the 1.6-liter 120 HP diesel engine for the Civic.
The 1.6 turbodiesel will also be offered on the CR-V, but only on the front-wheel drive models. If you want AWD, you’ll have to go for the bigger 2.2 diesel with 150 hp or the 2.0-liter i-VTEC.

“This multi-million pound investment by Honda in its twentieth year of car production in the UK is great news for Swindon and the automotive sector. Having created a host of new jobs, the investment supports Government’s ambition to encourage new investment and exports as a route to renewed growth and a more balanced economy,” added Business Secretary, Vince Cable, who visited the factory.

“This investment programme underpins Honda’s commitment to manufacturing in Britain and to our UK workforce. It also reaffirms the Swindon plant’s position as the cornerstone of Honda’s European operations, as it has been for over 20 years,” added Dave Hodgetts, Managing Director of Honda UK.
