Most people who want to upgrade the infotainment systems of their cars typically turn to aftermarket head units that very often come with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay support.
Those who want the full experience usually choose an Android head unit that’s not limited to only a bunch of apps but runs all of them, just like a typical Android device.

And then, there are those who go for the most complex solution that involves a custom dash mod allowing them to install an iPad in their cars.

This is the case of this 2012 Ford Fusion owner who used a Soundman iPad mini dash kit for the whole thing, essentially installing an Apple iPad as the core of their infotainment system behind the wheel.

This job isn’t necessarily a task that anyone can do, as you’ll notice by simply clicking the play button in the video after the jump. However, with the proper instructions it’s certainly possible, albeit the attention to detail is what’s playing a super-important role here.

As for the reason why an iPad installed in your car is such a cool thing, just imagine what you can do typically do with Apple’s tablet on your couch and then think you can have all of these inside the car. With an iPad, you have the full iOS experience, including even apps that you shouldn’t use while driving, such as Netflix.

And of course, there are lots of games and other apps that you can run when the car is parked, so instead of a compromised infotainment system, you get the genuine iOS power right behind the wheel.

The whole thing can be done on many other cars with the right equipment, so if you’re up to task, make sure you drop us a line to check out your custom dash mod too.
