2012 Ford Focus Meets American Customers

The Los Angeles Auto Show has become the venue of choice for Ford to showcase to the American public the most anticipated new model since the new Fiesta. The 2012 Focus, designed in Europe, is currently on display in the City of Angels, presenting itself in both hatchback and sedan versions.

All in all, the info about the new Focus has been slowly leaked over the past few months by Ford, so there aren't any major developments here. The core of the engine lineup will be the new 2.0l gasoline unit, which delivers according to Ford more power than the current 2.0l Duratec, while keeping the fuel consumption figure within acceptable limits (40 mpg / 5.88l/100km).

The unit is paired to Ford's latest interpretation of the dry-clutch six-speed PowerShift automatic transmission. It is this gearbox that helps the Focus cut around 9 percent of the fuel consumption figure achieved by a regular four speed automatic.

For the North American market, the Focus will come equipped with active park assist, SYNC with Traffic, Directions and Information, HD Radio with iTunes tagging, ambient lighting, torque vectoring control, rear view camera and Intelligent Access with push-button start.

“Focus brings a desirable combination of dynamic design, outstanding driver engagement, unmatched levels of technology and impressive fuel economy,” said Mark Fields, Fordpresident of The Americas. “The new model should expand Focus appeal to a whole new generation of customers.”

Sales of the new Focus in the home market are expected to begin in the first months of 2011. Prices have not yet been announced.
