The invasion of special version of Dodge vehicles, which are currently on display at the Chicago Auto Show, is dominated by the R/T editions of no less than five models. Among them, the Challenger R/T hopes to bring a bit more flavor and power to the line.
Under the hood of the model, the 5.7l HEMI V8 engine is used to deliver up to 376 horsepower and 556 Nm of torque. Controlled via a Tremec TR6060 six-speed manual transmission, the engine delivers 25 mpg highway. Using the five-speed automatic transmission, the engine produces 372 horsepower and 542 Nm of torque, with the same mileage rating.
On the exterior, the muscle car treatment includes a restyled trapezoidal front air dam with a larger opening and a larger “duck bill” front spoiler in black. At the interior, the R/T comes with leather-wrapped thick-rimmed three-spoke Dodge steering wheel (complete with back-lit cruise, Electronic Vehicle Information Center and Uconnect Voice Command controls), race-inspired instrument panel with four-bomb gauge cluster and a four-line display EVIC with trip and multimedia information from the Media Center radio.
For those with a taste for longer journeys, the auto maker decided to fit the new Challenger R/T with redesigned seat structures with improved cushioning, more comfortable contours, power lumbar and improved access to the rear seats.
The special edition of the model is being sold for $29,670 (excluding an $825 destination charge). If you find this version not to be to your liking, you can always choose from the Dodge Charger R/T, Journey R/T, Grand Caravan R/T or Durango R/T.
