Something called the Dacia Lodgy Glace has been unveiled under Renault's sub-brand and it’s left us scratching our heads. Before we get underway with what the automaker has to say, we’re going to tell you what we think it is.
Basically, we were expecting Dacia to launch a compact MPV for a while now, and this looks to be it. It was originally rumored to be called the Popster, but since the ice-racer will be used as a marketing tool, the Lodgy name might be here to stay, even if you can’t pronounce it. You can look at as a cheaper Renault Modus or Scenic, because that’s what it probably is. The ice racer also clearly shows a fresh grille and headlights that don’t belong to any current Dacia model and will probably make sense next to an all-new Clio.
When it enters production, the MPV will probably have the same engines as the Duster - a 1.5-liter dCi with either 90 or 110 hp and a 1.6-liter petrol with 110 hp, though renault might use even more efficient units as well.
The Lodgy Glace is designed to take on the Trophee Andros 2011/2012 ice-racing series, where two such cars will be entered, one driven by Alain Prost, who finished as runner-up in the 2010 and 2011 Trophee Andros, and the other shared by his son, Nicolas Prost and Evens Stievenart, Alain Prost's team-mate and joint winner of last winter’s Superfinal at the Stade de France, Paris.
The ice racing car is powered by a 3-liter V6 with 355 hp and 360 Nm of torque. The power is sent to an all-wheel drive system via the SADEV 6-speed sequential and limited slip front and rear differentials.
