2012 Chevy Malibu Considerably Outselling 2013 Model

In a typical move by GM, the American giant must have needed to get rid of a few 2.4-liter lumps lying around unused, so they put them under the hood of the new Chevy Malibu, despite the fact they would be replacing them with a new 2.5-liter unit, as well as a clever 2.0-liter turbo, six months after launch, for the 2013 model-year.

Well, now, while the 2.5-liter and the 2.0-liter turbo are available, the older 2.4-liter powered car is considerably outselling the newer car. By how much? Well, according to autonews.com, Chevrolet shifted about 100,000 2012 model-year cars, whereas the newer car only managed 7,000 sales.

However, before you draw any conclusions, you need to factor in value for money. How does $6,000 off the list price sound? Well, that’s what customers of the 2012 model-year car are getting, which means that they are buying a $22,390 car for just $16,400, and despite the fact that the newer engines get better economy, buyers are aware that they will never recoup the money.

This way, GM got rid of their old 2.4-liter lumps and got some money for them as well. All in all, a good deal - for GM.
