The ZL1 is getting ready for its big day on the dealers’ lots, as production of the coupe has already started. So to bring some attention to the super pony, GM has released yet another Nurburgring video detailing the sports car’s exploits there in 2011.
In case you forgot, the ZL1 was honed there, and it even managed to set a blistering speed on the track. We’re talking about a record 7 minutes and 41.27 seconds, which puts it way up there with the big boys. A quick check will show this puts the ZL1 on par with the current 911 Carrera S, which has 400 horsepower.
It’s impressive to consider that actual supercars are within reach. For instance, the old Ferrari 430 Scuderia did a 7:39, while the Lexus LF-A and Gallardo LP 570-4 Superlegera both did a 7:38.
As a reminder, the American muscle for this car is a 6.2-liter LSA V8 with 580 horsepower and 556 lb-ft of torque. The engine is matched to a Tremec TR-6060 6-speed manual transmission with a new shorter-throw shifter.
