General Motors recently announced a recall for 4,000 units of four models due to an airbag-related problem. The affected vehicles include the 2012 Chevrolet Camaro, Cruze and Sonic, as well as the 2012 Buick Verano.
The driver’s side airbag might make contact with the airbag terminals even in the event of an accident. This means that the airbag may not deploy and thus seriosuly increases the risk of injury for the driver. Dealers will replace the steering wheel airbag coil, free of charge, with the campaign set to debut on February 13.
We have to explain that this is an expansion of a similar recall that was issued in November last year. Back then, it was announced that the problem affected 2,949 units of the 2012 Chevrolet Cruze, Chevrolet Sonic and Buick Verano.
If you own one of the affected models, you can contact the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) at 1-888-327-4236 (TTY 1-800-424-9153).
