In anticipation of the model's global debut at the 2011 North American International Auto Show (NAIAS) in Detroit, Buick presented the new Verano, a compact luxury sedan that will go on sale in the fourth quarter of 2011. The range will be powered by an Ecotec 2.4-liter engine mated to a six-speed automatic transmission, with power output reaching 177 horsepower and 230 Nm (170 lb-ft) of torque.

The aforementioned powertrain configuration leaves the 100 km/h (62 mph) mark behind in 8 seconds and achieves a fuel consumption rating of 31 mpg (7.5 l/100km) highway. Buick says a 2.0-liter turbo engine will also join the range in the future, but more details will be revealed at a later date.

The 2012 Verano will be offered with a total of 10 standard airbags, as well as a push-button engine start, dual-zone climate control with standard air conditioning (automatic climate control is also available), heated steering wheel, electronic parking brake, heated leather seats, power windows, steering wheel-mounted radio controls and uplevel front and rear reading lamps.

OnStar is obviously available across the new range, so the Verano will also offer a touchscreen with navigation system, Bluetooth connectivity, XM Satellite Radio plus a Bose audio system.

“Verano expands our lineup, continues Buick’s momentum and gives us a great opportunity to attract a new generation of customers with a product that delivers on their expectations for design, performance and technology,”
said John Schwegman, vice president of Buick marketing. “It is a smart choice that delivers unexpected luxury in a compact sedan – and it will compete head-to-head with competitors from Audi and Lexus.”

autoevolution will be attending the 2011 North American International Auto Show, so stay tuned for some real up close and personal shots of the vehicles, as well as for first-hand details of the motorized contraptions.
