BMW has officially unveiled this, the i8 Spyder concept over the weekend and we don’t think it’s any joke (April Fools was this Sunday). In fact, this seriously cool concept car is supposed to make its debut at the 2012 Beijing Auto Show in China, which takes place at the end of the month, and features sold doors instead of glass ones like last year’s i8 coupe concept.
It’s also got a shorter wheelbase, no rear seats, a more production intent interior, a really strange glass cover for the boot at the back, a redesigned back.

The plug-in hybrid powertrain combine a 1.5-liter 3-cylinder turbocharged engine at the back and an electric motor at the front. The combined output of the system is 349 hp and 550 Nm of torque. This propels the i8 Spyder from 0 to 100 km/h (62 mph) in just 5.0 seconds and on to an electronically limited top speed of 155 mph (250 km/h).

It will be able to run on electricity alone for 17 to 19 miles (27 to 30 Km) according to BMW.
