The 2012 BMW 3 Series made its world debut at the 2011 Frankfurt Motor Show in September, but the world hasn’t gotten its share of the hybrid version yet. Now the Bavarian automaker has announced the gas-electric 3-Series will bow at the 2012 Detroit Auto Show next month, along with the rest of the 3-Series range, the new M5 and the i EV concepts.
Detroit not only marks the return of the four-cylinder engines in 3-Series cars for the U.S., but also the debut of what promises to be the highest-ever gas mileage in a 3-Series - 36 mpg on the European test cycles. The car offers a 40-kw (55-hp) electric motor between the ActiveHybrid 3's 300-hp twin-scroll turbocharged 3.0-liter inline six-cylinder engine and the standard eight-speed auto box.

It can sprint in electric-only mode up to a speed of 37 mph and can also cruse at 100 mph. Despite using the same engine, it’s supposed to be some 12.5 percent more efficient than the 335i. The ActiveHybrid 3 will go on sale across the world starting February 11, 2012.

He also loves local car culture from all over the world, so don't be surprised to see him getting excited about weird Japanese imports, low-rider VWs out of Germany, replicas from Russia or LS swaps down in Florida.
