The Active Tourer is basically an MPV with luxury ambitions, which will likely enter production as the 1-Series Gran Turismo. When this happens, it will go up against cars the like the Mercedes Benz B-Class or the Audi A3 Sportback.

As a concept, it will be shown at BMW’s stand at the upcoming Paris Motor Show, where it will actually be shown as an plug-in hybrid, combining the recently unveiled 1.5-liter turbocharged three-cylinder petrol with a synchronous electric motor that motivates the rear wheels. Combined, the two push the car along with 190 PS (188 hp), enough for zero to 100 km/h (62 mph) in under 8 seconds and a top speed of about 200km/h (124mph).

Proportionally, the concept Active Tourer is a tall-ish machine, measuring 4,350mm (171.2-inches) in length, 1,834mm (72.2-inches) in width and 1,560mm (61.4-inches) in height. This makes it about the same length and height as the B-Class, but slightly wider.

As a production car, the MPV will have different mirrors and wheels than the concept. The rest of the exterior won’t change much, but the interior will be dulled up a bit.

autoevolution will be attending the Paris Motor Show 2012, so stay tuned for some real up close and personal shots of the vehicles, as well as for first-hand details of the motorized contraptions presented at the event.
