Another day, another safety recall, this time announced by BMW North America for the new 2012 3-Series model. The fault is found with the head restraints, which in the case of a crash will move by more than the allowed 25 mm downward increasing the risk of a neck injury.
In the event of a vehicle crash, the head restraints may move down unexpectedly if they were fixed in the highest extension position. According to the NHTSA, this increases the risk of personal injury, especially in when the car is rear-ended.

BMW of North AMerica will notify owners of affected vehicles. The dealers will install a new clamp to the front seat head restraint posts that will fix the downward movement problem. The recall is going to start later this month and affects 7,600 vehicles belonging to the 2012 model year and manufactured between October 19, 2011, and March 18th, 2012.
