BMW recently unveiled the 1 Series M coupe and, although it is one of the most appealing models released this year, it won't be offered with a moonroof option. That's right, the German manufacturer retails the 1 Series M with tons of options, but no moonroof among them. Why exactly? Because such an addition would only add 35 pounds (15.8 kilograms) to the overall weight of the car, while the version without a moonroof would have a lower center of gravity, as reported by DriveOn.
The 1 Series M coupe is powered by a twin-turbocharged in-line six cylinder engine that generates no less than 340 horsepower and 450 Nm of torque, which means it is able to sprint from 0 to 100 km/h (62 mph) in just 4.9 seconds.
The car will go on sale in spring and will ride on standard 18 inch 5 spoke wheels (the size will be the minimum offered to go with the M1) or, as an option, on 18 inch Competition wheels. It will boast M-designed side vents and side sills, with the bulged hood of the car giving the vehicle a more aggressive look.
The car will make its first public appearance next month in the United States at the 2011 NAIAS to be held in Detroit.
autoevolution will be attending the 2011 North American International Auto Show, so stay tuned for some real up close and personal shots of the vehicles, as well as for first-hand details of the motorized contraptions.
