The S8 is not the only Audi to get a new engine, as the S7 Sportback also comes with a 4.0-liter with twin turbos. However, the engine has been detuned to leave room for a proper RS, and the V8 only puts out 420PS and 550Nm (405 lb-ft) of torque.
The move was made largely for the sake of deduced fuel consumption, which has dropped by as much as 25 percent, while emissions are now only 235 grams per kilometer.
The five-door coupe will sprint from 0 to 62 mph (100 km/h ) in 4.7 seconds, while top speed is electronically limited to 155 mph (250 km/h).
In the UK, the new S7 with a V8 will start at £61,995 when it goes on sale in May. Standard features include xenon headlights, LED daytime runners, MMI,, leather upholstery, 7-speed S tronic gearbox and 19-inch wheels. Carbon fibre-ceramic discs are available as an option.
