2012 Audi A6 to Show in Detroit

The upcoming Detroit Auto Show promises to be an above average automotive event, with more than one carmaker promising to bring new and exciting models to the car capital of America.

Among the countless models to be present at the event, the Germans from Audi are likely to bring the new A6 to the US, for the official public presentation. According to inautonews.com, the full details of the model will be presented by Audi next week, on December 1.

Until then, we're left with what the rumor mill was able to grind over the past few months. The new A6 will feature Audi's modular longitudinal platform, which makes extensive use of aluminum to reduce weight, costs, fuel consumption and emissions.

The engines will be completely revised, with the car to be offered with an extensive choice of powertrains. Which will include the 2.0l TFSI four-cylinder (180 bhp), 2.8l FSI (201 bhp) and 3.0l TFSI (296 bhp).

The diesel offering will be made up of a 3.0l TDI unit (201 bhp and 242 bhp), as well as a 2.0l TDI. Audi plans to link the powertrains to an 8 speed automatic or a 7 speed dual clutch gearbox.

As for the Detroit Auto Show, the organizers announced this week that they will offer a full floor of models coming from 40 manufacturers from all over the world.
