General Motors is recalling 9,733 Chevrolet Silverado and GMC Sierra heavy-duty pickup trucks from the 2012 and 2013 model years over faulty fuel transfer pumps.
All the trucks are equipped with 6.6-liter diesel engines and dual fuel tanks. The automaker says the transfer pump that moves fuel from the rear tank to the front tank could fail and cause the fuel gauge to indicate an inaccurate reading.
"In the affected vehicles, the transfer pump which moves fuel from the rear tank to the front tank could malfunction and cause the fuel gauge to indicate an inaccurate reading. If the fuel gauge indicates an inaccurate reading it may result in the vehicle unexpectedly stalling, increasing the risk of a crash," GM said in a statement.
The manufacturer has yet to provide a schedule for the recall, but says GM dealers will inspect and replace the fuel transfer pump free of charge.
