There’s still a long way to go before VW reaches its former US glory, but at least the Germans are on the right track. During the year that has just ended, they’ve sold 324,402 units, which represents a 26.3 percent increase over 2010 and marks its best year in sales since 2002.
During the last month of the year, Volkswagen sold 2,502 vehicles, which was 36.2 percent over the same month in 2010. According to the manufacturer, this is their best December showing since 1972.
To blame for this is the new Jetta with 150,515 units for 2011, a 54.5 percent increase over 2010. The Passat also did its part, selling 22,779 units, of which 6,884 units for the month of December 2011, representing a 124 percent growth over 2010.
About the only loser was the Routan minivan that saw demand drop 22 percent.
