The Swedish carmaker finally took the wraps off its latest model, the V60 Sports Wagon, which Volvo says is more of a coupe rather than an estate. Visually, the car stands out thanks to the wedge shape with a slim coupe-like roof line and the double wave from the headlamps at the front to the tail lamps at the rear.

Volvo's new sports wagon is available with a choice of two chassis: the dynamic version as standard for the European markets, while the touring version as standard for the ones remaining. All variants of the new V60 can also be specified with the optional FOUR-C (Continuously Controlled Chassis Concept) active chassis.

Engine choices will include a newly developed T6 engine, a new direct injected 2.0-litre and two new 1.6-litre GTDi units, two five-cylinder turbodiesels as well as a DRIVe diesel.

The most powerful unit is the 3.0l T6 engine that develops 304 bhp and 440 Nm of torque, boosting the car to 100 km/h from a standstill in 6.6 seconds. Top speed is limited to 250 km/h. Fuel consumption is rated at 10.2 l/100 km (combined cycle). Power is transmitted to the wheels via Volvo's second-generation six-speed automatic Geartronic transmission.

The V60 also gets a completely new Infotainment system featuring a five-inch or seven-inch colour screen in the instrument panel. Safety wise, the 2011 sports wagon from Volvo comes equipped with Advanced Stability Control and also features the new Corner Traction Control system, Pedestrian Detection and City Safety as standard.

First deliveries are scheduled to begin this fall, with Volvo expecting to sell 50,000 units of the 2011 V60 each year. Pricing details are to be announced closer to the market launch.
