2011 Volkswagen Sharan Teased Ahead of Geneva

Finally, the 15 years long wait for a new generation Sharan will soon end, as German carmaker Volkswagen decided to bring the new generation of the people mover to the 2010 Geneva Auto Show. And that’s not all; they even decided to give us a glimpse of the new MPV, in this somewhat exciting photo posted on the carmaker’s German website.

As you might imagine, there’s little official information about Der Sharan know at this point but, then again, since we’ve waited for 15 years, we can easily go for a couple more weeks.

For those who, for some reason, can’t wait no more, we can only go into what already is know about the Sharan. As you can see, it features the same front grille now available on the entire Volkswagen model range.

In order to cope with the competition from Ford, Renault and Opel, the new Sharan is significantly bigger than the previous generation. Another new aspect will be the two sliding doors which, according to some sources, might be motorized.

As you may recall, the Sharan was launched in 1995 and is currently 15 years old, one of Volkswagen's oldest vehicles in production. The last makeover of the minivan was back in 2000, when an upgraded edition of the first version of the car was released.

The German manufacturer extended the wheelbase by 0.2 inches and added a couple of new features that would improve the performance, to make the Sharan fit with the company's new design line. Until then, except a minor facelift in 2003, no real work has been put into the model.

autoevolution will be attending the 2010 Geneva Auto Show, so stay tuned for some real up close and personal shots of the vehicles, as well as for first-hand details of the motorized contraptions presented at the event.
