2011 Suzuki Swift Previewed for the UK

The first info on the third generation Swift has just been released by the company, accompanied by two photos that offer a glimpse on how Suzuki’s new car will look like when it will hit the UK market this autumn. The world premiere was held yesterday at its Magyar Suzuki Corporation production facility at Esztergom, in Hungary.

The 2011 Swift is 3.85 m long, 1,69 m wide and 1,51 m in height, and has a wheelbase of 2,43 m, which means it is a bit larger than the previous generation.

Performance wise, the 2011 Suzuki Swift will come with a new 1.2-litre petrol engine incorporating Dual VVT (Variable intake and exhaust valve timing) producing 94 horsepower at 6,000 rpm and a maximum torque of 118 Nm at 4,800 rpm. A 1.3-litre diesel engine will follow later.

In terms of fuel consumption, the 1.2-litre unit is rated at 56.5 mpg (4.16 l/100km) for the manual transmission model, while the 1.3-litre engine has a combined fuel consumption of 67.3 mpg (3.5 l/100km).

Emissions are lower than the previous version: the new 1.2-litre engine with manual transmission produces just 116g/km on the combined cycle. Suzuki says that an optional automatic transmission will be available for the petrol engine from launch. As for the 1.3-litre diesel engine, this one emits 109 g/km.

“Extensive use of higher strength steel makes the new bodyshell lighter and stiffer than before as well as offering refinement in underbody design. This latest body design has also helped improve impact safety for pedestrians as well as occupants,” a company statement reads.

Inside, the new Swift features black as its keynote colour with accents of silver throughout the car.

Further details, including pricing information, are to be revealed closer to the market launch.
