The Australian division of Suzuki has recently introduced two of its latest machines on the local market, namely the 2011 model year Suzuki GSX-R1000 and Boulevard C50 cruiser. Selling for AU$18,990 and AU$10,990 respectively, both the sportbike and the cruiser haven’t changed much compared with the 2010 models.
In fact, the only noticeable change is the livery, with the GSX-R1000 now coming in blue/white or black/silver, while thee Boulevard C50 has a new black colour scheme.
Taken separately, the GSX-R1000 sportsbike has a 999cc engine of DOHC, 16-valve, TSCC with increased rpm, and comes with a 6-speed gearbox. The bike’s maximum power is 160 bhp at 9,500 rpm and has a maximum torque of 110 Nm at 8,000 rpm. The engine has a compression ration of 12.8:1 and is fitted with 4 throttle bodies.
The bike has a curb weight of 428 pounds (205kg), very light for its power class. It has a twin-spar frame made out of aluminum alloy. The front suspension features Inverted telescopes, with coil springs as well as rebound and compression damping force fully adjustable.
By using a much larger main piston for the suspension in stead of the cartridge system with smaller piston traditionally used in most modern sportbike, a reduction of damping pressure via increased piston surface area/volume is possible. As a result, the bike now glides better and is more responsive under cornering.
On the other hand, as part of Suzuki's classically styled 'C' family of Boulevard cruisers, the fuel-injected V-twin Boulevard C50 will sell alongside the all-new Boulevard C50T.
