2011 Porsche Cayenne Range Comes with Better Fuel Economy

German manufacturer Porsche announced today that it has managed to achieve significant fuel savings in all its new-generation Cayenne models. The news comes after Porsche revealed it plans to offer, sometime in the future, a hybrid version for each of its models, while also to cut the fuel consumption figure on all of its vehicles with each model change.

As said, the 2011 Cayenne SUV comes with consumption reductions of 20 to 21 percent in its overall EPA fuel economy ratings.

The six-cylinder Cayenne model consumes with 20 percent less fuel than its predecessor, while the V8 Cayenne S and Cayenne Turbo models have enjoyed similar reductions. At the same time, all of these new vehicles offer more power and better performance.

This reduction in consumption across the entire Cayenne range has been achieved thanks to the use of the new eight-speed Tiptronic S automatic transmission with automatic stop/start function and a wide gear ratio range.

“Also critical to the improved efficiency is the Cayenne's weight reduction and intelligent lightweight construction. Engineers used a weight-optimized material mix and modified the vehicle's overall construction, which included the development and use of a new lighter-weight four-wheel drive system,”
a company statement reads.

Of course, a 400-pound weight loss not only helped improve the Cayenne's overall fuel consumption and CO2 emissions but also improved performance, agility, and handling.

The North American division of Porsche prepares to launch its first hybrid vehicle this weekend, the Cayenne S Hybrid, at the LA Auto Show (November 19-28). The model, which combines the power output of a supercharged V6 combustion engine with an electric motor, has official fuel consumption estimates using current EPA test protocols of 21 mpg (11.2 l/100km) in the city and 25 mpg (9.4 l/100km) on the highway.
