The Stuttgart-based German sports car maker made revisions to the 911 series when it presented the 997 generation, ever more powerful, nimble, and increasingly reliable. It then operated the classic midlife-cycle changes to make the model an even better choice for the auto enthusiast that loved driving more than tinkering. With that in mind, is there a better choice in the lineup than a Turbo Cabriolet?!
With a first registration in the early days of summer of 2011, this Porsche 911 (997) Turbo Cabriolet has an auction listing running until late in the evening on September 28th, and it clearly fits the bill. If interested, there’s still some time over the weekend and on Monday to up the ante on the current bid (at the time of writing) of £35,500 ($45,000).

The good news is the reserve has been met, so you can do incremental upgrades if a bidding war starts – and it just might be the case considering the offer. Its main asset is the newly introduced (at the time) 3.8-liter engine that was capable back in the day for 500 ps (493 hp) and a workout to 60 mph (96 kph) of just 3.2 seconds (3.5 for the Cabrio), when running with the PDK dual-clutch gearbox.

A 911 Turbo Cabriolet of the 997.2 variety, the unit seen here has accrued around 61k of road miles (98,000 km) in its lifetime, but the Basalt Black metallic finish looks mostly untouched by the passage of time. Still, we are dealing with a car that is almost a decade old, after all, so a little TLC will certainly be in order.

The exterior is nicely upgraded with the 19-inch alloy set from the Turbo S, and behind them sit the optional – and very expensive - Porsche Carbon Ceramic Brakes (PCCB). Its interior is fittingly black-matched, but to make sure there’s a little bit of contrast there are also some red stitches and Porsche headrest branding.

Overall, a good opportunity to come very close to a Porsche with all the modern functionality (PDK, launch control, etc.) without shelling out the kind of money a 2020 model goes for. And the performance is certainly almost on par – not necessarily with the contemporary Turbos, but at least with the lesser models.
