2011 Opel Astra Sport Hatch Sketchy Details

With Opel preparing to launch their new Astra model on September 17 at the Frankfurt IAA (International Motor Show) the company already leaked official sketches of the 2011 Astra sport hatch.

The car's designer, Malcom Ward confirmed for autocar.co.uk that the 2011 model will look very much like the released sketch. “It will be a very dramatic execution and very, very close to the sketch. Think about the current three-door then think about where the new car will go” said Astra's head designer.

He continued revealing that the 2011 model will feature a raffish look, with a special attention being directed towards the cars aerodynamics. Allegations were already made about the fact that Opel have neglected aerodynamics so far, so it seems now they are looking to test the 2011 model in the air tunnel to improve the car's efficiency.

Another fact that Malcom Ward let slip is that the company is clearly looking to “differentiate the Sport Hatch from the five-door” as reported by autocar.co.uk.

Until official details about the car will be made public, speculations will continue to flood the media. But that is exactly what Opel intended, to maintain a high level of interest for their upcoming Astra model, while teasing the market with a glimpse of the 2011 model to test its public reception.
