2011 Nissan X-TRAIL Gets New Gentex RCD Mirror

The Nissan's compact crossover sport utility vehicle, the X-TRAIL is to bring a new touch of luxury and high-end technology to the US line, with the introduction of the Gentex auto-dimming rearview mirrors with Rear Camera Display (RCD) on the model. The X-TRAIL with the Gentex RCD Mirror is offered as optional or standard equipment on multiple trim levels throughout Europe.

Gentex's mirror features an LCD that works in conjunction with the video camera mounted at the rear of the vehicle. While the car is in reverse, the auto-dimming mirror lights up thanks to the display that shows what happens at the rear of the car.

The display disappears when the vehicle is shifted into any other gear, a capability that is made possible utilizing Gentex's "transflective" coating and lighting techniques, which result in a bright, high-resolution color image.

"Nissan has offered the RCD Mirror as an accessory on a number of different vehicles in North America but the X-TRAIL is the first factory-installed programme with the automaker," stated Gentex senior vice president Enoch Jen.  "Gentex is excited to work with Nissan on introducing this feature to X-TRAIL drivers.  The RCD Mirrors, with graphic overlay lines indicating the vehicle's distance from an object, help drivers to determine the proximity of obstacles behind them.  This feature is becoming more popular in Europe."

The revamped X-TRAIL model comes with exterior and interior modifications, as well as a reduction for the level of CO2. The vehicle received a new manual gearbox, an improved shift schedule and enhanced friction reduction for the automatic transmissions, as well as low rolling resistance tires.
